a (se) dezobişnui

Verbul a (se) dezobișnui este format prin derivare, de la cuvântul de bază a (se) obișnui, cu prefixul dez-, după modelul franțuzescului déshabituer. Explicația termenului este relativ simplă – „a-și pierde sau a face să-și piardă un obicei, un nărav, un viciu”.

Cele mai cunoscute și mai folosite sinonime sunt a (se) dezvăța, a (se) dezbăra (care are o conotație negativă mai puternică). Echivalente, în funcție de context, sunt și verbe precum a (se) debarasa, a (se) descotorosi, a (se) lăsa, a scăpa, iar în sens figurat se utilizează a (se) scutura și a înțărca. Dintre antonime, dicționarele precizează a (se) deprinde și a (se) obișnui.

Hard to Quit

Connie told her 4-year-old grandson, Dean, not to jump on the beds. After several warnings she punished him, explaining that should he fall, he would hurt himself badly.

Several minutes passed… and he was back to jumping on the beds. Connie said, „Dean, you weren’t jumping on the beds again, were you?”

He stood with his little head dropped low and said, „I’m trying, but it’s so hard to quit.”

The Cure

A woman went to doctors office. She was seen by one of the new doctors, but after about 4 minutes in the examination room, she burst out, screaming as she ran down the hall. An older doctor stopped and asked her what the problem was, and she explained.

He had her sit down and relax in another room. The older doctor marched back to the first and demanded, „What’s the matter with you? Mrs. Terry is 63 years old, she has four grown children and seven grandchildren, and you told her she was pregnant?”

The new doctor smiled smugly as he continued to write on his clipboard. „Cured her hiccups though, didn’t it?”

Wrong Side

This guy is going through a nasty divorce. One night he’s sitting at a bar getting plastered. Suddenly he raises his head, looks over his LEFT shoulder and yells, „You women are all bitches!” then goes back to staring into his drink.

Five minutes later he raises his head looks over his RIGHT shoulder and yells, „You women are all whores!”

To that a women stands up and says, „I am not a whore!”

The guy keeps looking at his glass and says, „Then get over to the other side.”

a respira

Verbul a respira a ajuns la noi pe filiera limbilor romanice (din franceză – respirer, din latină și italiană – respirare), însemnând, mai întâi de toate, „a introduce în plămâni, prin inspirație, aer și a da afară, prin expirație, dioxidul de carbon și vaporii de apă rezultați din arderile care au oc în organism”.

Un alt sens al verbului este cel figurat care se referă la „a-și reveni după o emoție, un efort, a se simți ușurat” ori „a se odihni un moment”. Cele mai cunoscute sinonime sunt a răsufla, a inhala, a inspira, iar dintre cele cu sens figurat – a răspândi, a revărsa, a degaja, a împrăștia. Foarte frumos este aforismul atribuit lui Cicero: „Dum spiro, spero” – „Cât respir, sper”.
