„A sepal, petal, and a thorn” de Emily Dickinson

A sepal, petal, and a thorn
Upon a common summer’s morn —
A flask of Dew — A Bee or two —
A Breeze — a caper in the trees —
And I’m a Rose!

I saw thee on thy bridal day-
When a burning blush came o’er thee,
Though happiness around thee lay,
The world all love before thee:
Era de ziua nunţii tale,
Când viu se-aprinse chipul tău,
Deşi norocu-ţi zâmbea în cale
Şi lumea, doar iubire-n jurul tău.
And in thine eye a kindling light
(Whatever it might be)
Was all on Earth my aching sight
Of Loveliness could see.
Şi-n ochi o slavă luminoasă
(Oricare putea fi)
Fu tot ce pe pământ privirea-mi dureroasă
A putut-Încântare-privi.
That blush, perhaps, was maiden shame-
As such it well may pass-
Though its glow hath raised a fiercer flame
In the breast of him, alas!
Poate acel foc era pudoare
-Drept asta trece-ncai-
Deşi el deşteaptă o mai cumplită ardoare
În pieptul aceluia, vai,
Who saw thee on that bridal day,
When that deep blush would come o’er thee,
Though happiness around thee lay;
The world all love before thee.
Care, de ziua nunţii tale,
Văzu cum viu se-aprinse chipul tău,
Deşi norocu-ţi zâmbea în cale,
Şi lumea, doar iubire-n jurul tău.

“Floare albastră” de Mihai Eminescu

– „Iar te-ai cufundat în stele
Şi în nori şi-n ceruri nalte?
De nu m-ai uita încalte,
Sufletul vieţii mele.
„You ride the clouds and range the sky
Your net about the stars cast;
But do remember dear at last
My soul can never soar so high.

„I Thought of You” de Sara Teasdale

I thought of you and how you love this beauty,
And walking up the long beach all alone
I heard the waves breaking in measured thunder
As you and I once heard their monotone.
Îmi vine-n minte cât ţi-era de dragă
Această plajă… Singură-s pe mal,
Şi-aud, ca şi atunci, cum în cadenţă
Se sparge val după identic val.
Around me were the echoing dunes, beyond me
The cold and sparkling silver of the sea –
We two will pass through death and ages lengthen
Before you hear that sound again with me.
În zare-i luciul mării cristaline,

With the curtains drawn together,
At my table of rough wood,
And the firelight flickering softly,
Do I fall to thoughtful mood.

„I Felt a Funeral, in My Brain” de Emily Dickinson

I felt a Funeral, in my Brain,
And Mourners to and fro
Kept treading — treading — till it seemed
That Sense was breaking through —
Am simţit o Înmormântare în Creier,
Bocitoare se jeleau neîncetat
Umblând – de colo colo – până când
Şi Judecata mi-au întunecat
And when they all were seated,
A Service, like a Drum —
Kept beating — beating — till I thought
My Mind was going numb —
Iar când s-au potolit cu toate,
O Slujbă ca o Tobă s-a pornit –
Bătând într-una până ce
Şi Cugetul mi-a amorţit –
And then I heard them lift a Box
And creak across my Soul
With those same Boots of Lead, again,
Then Space — began to toll,
Am auzit apoi săltând o Lacră
Pe suflet parcă-mi scârţâiau anume
Cu-aceleaşi Încălţări de Plumb
Spaţiul întreg – a început să sune,
As all the Heavens were a Bell,
And Being, but an Ear,
And I, and Silence, some strange Race
Wrecked, solitary, here —
Şi parcă Cerul tot era un Clopot,
O singură Ureche, tot ce era Suflare
Eu şi Tăcerea, ciudată Pereche
Naufragiate aici, solitare
And then a Plank in Reason, broke,
And I dropped down, and down —
And hit a World, at every plunge,
And Finished knowing — then —
Am căzut apoi adânc, adânc –
O Scândură s-a rupt în Mintea mea –
În cădere mă loveam de Lumi –
Epuizând – Cunoaşterea
Emily Dickinson traducere de Ileana Mihai-Ştefănescu
