„Marea” de Victor Eftimiu

Neţărmuita mare se frământă,
Eternă pregătire de furtună
Se-nalţă-n trombe, duduie, detună
Şi-n colcăit de spumă se-nvestmântă.
The irrepressible and boundless sea
Gets ready for the storm with each foreboding.
She rushes upward, mighty roars unloading,
In robes of sizzling foam is clothed she.
Şi-aşa, mereu, de mii de ani, nebună
Cu însăşi ea luându-se la trântă,
Pe rând biruitoare şi înfrântă
Îşi macină neliniştea străbună.
And so, in frenzied bout past frenzied bout,
Since timeless dawns she with herself has scuffled.
She wins and loses and is yet reshuffled,
Her restlessness of ages grinding out.
Când toate dorm, extaze sau mânie,
A mării nesfârşită insomnie
Se potoleşte iar şi iar s-asmute.
Şi-n vreme ce se zbate fără pace.
At night, when even dreams appear subdued,
The sea alone is lively and awoken.
For want of sleep, her poise is swiftly broken,
She quakes and idles as befits her mood.
O poartă-n adâncimile opace
Augustul calm al fundurilor mute.
And while her frantic motions never cease,
Down, on her sandy bottom, all is peace.

„Mortua est!” de Mihai Eminescu

Făclie de veghe pe umezi morminte,
Un sunet de clopot în orele sfinte,
Un vis ce îşi moaie aripa-n amar,
Astfel ai trecut de al lumii hotar.
Two candles, tall sentry, beside an earth mound,
A dream with wings broken that trail to the ground,
Loud flung from the belfry calamitous chime…
‘Tis thus that you passed o’er the bound’ries of time.

„Are You the New Person Drawn Toward Me?” de Walt Whitman

Are you the new person drawn toward me?
To begin with take warning, I am surely
far different from what you suppose;
Do you suppose you will find in me your ideal?
Do you think it so easy to have me become your lover?
Do you think the friendship of me would be unalloy’d
satisfaction?
Do you think I am trusty and faithful?
Do you see no further than this facade,
this smooth and tolerant manner of me?
Do you suppose yourself advancing on real ground toward
a real heroic man?
Have you no thought O dreamer that
it may be all Maya, illusion?
sunt foarte diferit de ceea ce presupui;

I fear not what has not been
Nor what fails to come when called
Were it to be it would require no prodding
Rather it would come and we would once anew rejoice being
And what heck of a moth would come out of the cocoon
To dance with Death around the kitchen lamp
Where are treaties to be found alas they are all void
While the sturgeon was still jumping in the sink
The golden fish gobbled up the silver
Let flowers bloom and turn to dust
Then let us go for go we must
What do we strive for? Thought alone!

O’er the plain whose breast is verdant with the quiv’ring corn-blades’ sheen
Comes a shadow slowly creeping, slightly darkening the green,
Spreading, as an eager streamlet, that was erst by frost congealed,
Now at last its banks o’erflowing fills and floods the neighbouring field.
E umbra unor nouri albii, uşori, mărunţi
Ce lunecă sub soare, clădind un lanţ de munţi;
‘Tis the shadow of some cloudlets, white and fleecy, fraught with rain,
That come creeping ‘neath the sunshine building up a mountain chain;
With a faint mysterious murmur, like an all- but-stifled sigh.
They steal onward, darkly, dimly, till a flash lights up the sky!
Hark! the heavens’ bellowing thunder ! Dost thou hear the joyful cries
That, responding to the signal, from th’ awakened earth arise Î
Now she knows herself enfranchised from long winter’s stern control;
Youthful vigour swells her bosom — buoyant gladness fills her soul.
As she bids a joyous welcome to the tidings from the West!
See! a flight of stately eagles, high above the mountain’s crest,
Onward swooping pause to listen to the heavens’ mighty strain,
That proclaims amid the cloudland, „Sweet Springtime is come again”.

„Dance Figure” de Ezra Pound

Dark-eyed,
O woman of my dreams,
Ivory sandalled,
There is none like thee among the dancers,
None with swift feet.
Ochi negri,
O, doamnă din visu-mi,
În sandale de fildeş,
Pereche nu ai între dănţuitoare,
Nu-s glezne mai iuţi.
