„Mai am un singur dor” de Mihai Eminescu

Mai am un singur dor
În liniştea serii
Să mă lăsaţi să mor
La marginea mării;
Să-mi fie somnul lin
Şi codrul aproape,
Pe-ntinsele ape
Să am un cer senin.
Nu-mi trebuie flamuri,
Nu voi sicriu bogat,
Ci-mi împletiţi un pat
Din tinere ramuri.
One wish alone have I:
In some calm land
Beside the sea to die;
Upon its strand
That I forever sleep,
The forest near,
A heaven clear
Stretched o’er the peaceful deep.
No candles shine,
Nor tomb I need, instead
Let them for me a bed
Of twigs entwine.

„Get Up and Bar the Door”

It fell about the Martinmas time,
And a gay time it was then,
When our goodwife got puddings to make,
And she‘s boild them in the pan.

Dacă-mi lipseşti tu, însăşi esenţă a minunii ?
Ah, inimă şi coarde-mi sunt deopotrivă mute,
Când limpede văd astăzi prăpastia minciunii:
Căci orb eram atuncea când te aveam în faţă,
Splendoarea-ţi, luându-mi ochii, da cântecului viaţă!
Of love’s waste all that I might recover
Is a rope twisted together out of your dainty frocks…
But other voices counsel me to forgive, turn a blind eye,
The sightless nightingales more sweetly sing their strain.
Give in, my pain, so that we can exalt the runaway
And, instead of revenge, wring out of art
And immortality tears which turn hideous treason
Into the world’s most brilliant ornament.
But who can lend me now both verse and soul,
When I am missing you, the miracle’s true essence?
My heart and strings are dumbed
Now when I clearly see the lie’s abyss:
My eyes were blind when you were close to me,
Your dazzling splendour brought the song to life!

„Song of Myself (24)” de Walt Whitman

I do not press my fingers across my mouth,
I keep as delicate around the bowels as around the head and heart,
Copulation is no more rank to me than
death is.
Eu nu pun degetul la gură, nu mă sfiesc,
Cu gingăşie egală mă-ndrept către cele din pântec
ca înspre cele din cap şi din inimi,
Împreunarea vă spun că-i la fel de solemnă ca
moartea.

„Din tezaurul mării” de Ion Murgeanu

Din tezaurul mării am scos
Fericirile drepţilor.
Mergeam lângă Domnul supus.
Nu-mi era foame nu-mi era frig.
Pe drum treceau vameşi.
Atunci am întrebat şi El mi-a răspuns.
Întâi de toate învaţă răbdarea.
Munţi nu s-au clintit încă din loc.
Nu am trecut cu paşii mei marea.
Deci am repetat întrebarea mirat.
Caută singur răspuns. Mi-a răspuns.
Nu vezi fericiţii acestui veac?
Toţi au ales disperarea.
I have extracted the joys of the righteous
Out of the Sea’s Treasure
I was humbly walking beside The Lord
I was not hungry I was not cold
To and fro tollhouse clerks were passing us by
And then I asked Him my question and then He answered
First and foremost thou must learn to be patient
Mounts have not yet shifted
I have not yet crossed the sea on foot
Puzzled I once anew asked my question
Seek thy own answer was His answer
Might thou not have noted nowadays happy ones?
Hopelessness is what they all have chosen

„A Word Is Dead” de Emily Dickinson

A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say.
Cuvântul e mort
Îndată ce-i rostit
Se spune.
I say it just
Begins to live
That day.
Eu cred că abia atunci
Începe viaţa lui
În lume.
Emily Dickinson traducere de Ileana Mihai-Ştefănescu
