„Mioriţa” de Vasile Alecsandri

Pe-un picior de plaiu,
Pe-o gură de raiu,
Iată vin în cale,
Se cobor la vale
Trei turme de miei
Cu trei ciobănei
Unu-i Moldovean
Unu-i Ungurean
Şi unu-i Vrâncean.
Near a low foothill
At Heaven‘s doorsill,
Where the trail‘s descending
To the plain and ending,
Here three shepherds keep
Their three flocks of sheep,
One, Moldavian,
One, Transylvanian
And one, Vrancean.

„A Book of Nonsense” de Edward Lear

There was an Old Man with a beard,
Who said, ‘It is just as I feared!
Two Owls and a Hen,
Four Larks and a Wren,
Have all built their nests in my beard!’
Un bătrân avea o barbă;
Spuse: „Veni ziua oarbă! ‒
Două buhe şi-o găină,
Trei scatii şi-un cuc, deplină
Cuibăreală-ntr-a mea barbă!”

„Tears, Idle Tears” de Alfred Tennyson

Tears, idle tears, I know not what they mean,
Tears from the depth of some divine despair
Rise in the heart, and gather to the eyes,
In looking on the happy Autumn-fields,
And thinking of the days that are no more.
Fresh as the first beam glittering on a sail,
That brings our friends up from the underworld,
Sad as the last which reddens over one
That sinks with all we love below the verge;
So sad, so fresh, the days that are no more.
Ah, sad and strange as in dark summer dawns
The earliest pipe of half-awaken‘d birds
To dying ears, when unto dying eyes
The casement slowly grows a summering square;
So sad, so strange, the days that are no more.
Dear as remember‘d kisses after death,
On lips that are for others; deep as love,
Deep as first love, and wild with all regret;
Death in Life, the days that are no more!
Se conturează-ncet pătratul ce sclipeşte;
Adânci ca-ntâiul dor, sălbatice-n regrete;

Pe freamătul de frunze la tine tu mă chemi;
Deasupra criptei negre a sfântului mormânt
O mother, darling mother, lost in time’s formless haze
Amidst the leaves’ sweet rustle you call my name always;
Amidst their fluttering murmur above your sacred grave
I hear you softly whisper whene’er the branches wave;
While o’er your tomb the willows their autumn raiment heap…
For ever wave the branches, and you for ever sleep.
Când voi muri, iubito, la creştet să nu-mi plângi;
Asupra ei să cadă a ochilor tăi stropi;
Simţi-o-voi o dată umbrind mormântul meu…
Mereu va creşte umbra-i, eu voi dormi mereu.
When l shall die, beloved, do not beside me mourn,
But break a branch of blossom that does the lime adorn,
And take it very softly, and plant it at my head;
I’ll feel its shadow growing as on the soil it’s shed;
And watered by the tears that you for sorrow weep…
For ever grow that shadow, and l for ever sleep.
Ne pună-n încăperea aceluiaşi sicriu;
Mereu va plânge apa, noi vom dormi mereu.
And should it be together that we shall die one day,
They shall not in some cemet’ry our separate bodies lay,
But let them dig a grave near where the river flows
And in a single coffin them both together close;
That l to time eternal my love beside me keep…
For ever wail the water, and we for ever sleep.

„La Belle Dame Sans Merci” de John Keats

Oh what can ail thee, knight-at-arms,
Alone and palely loitering?
The sedge has withered from the lake,
And no birds sing.
„Ce suferinţă, cavaler în zea.
Te face, palid, să te pierzi?
În lac rogoz şi trestii s-au uscat,
Cu păsări nu te mai dezmierzi.

„Ode to a Nightingale” de John Keats

My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk:
‘Tis not through envy of thy happy lot,
But being too happy in thine happiness, –
That thou, light-winged Dryad of the trees,
In some melodious plot
Of beechen green and shadows numberless,
Singest of summer in full-throated ease.
Mi-i somn în simţuri… Inima mă doare
Şi pare-se cucută doar şi opiu
De-o clipă c-am băut cu însetare;
M-afund în Lethe, de neant m-apropiu.
Nu pizmuindu-ţi neamu-n aste ore,
Ci-n fericirea ta prea fericită,
Driada-n crâng, cu aripi jucăuşe,
În melodii sonore,
Prin fagii verzi, de umbre-nvăluită,
Cânţi vara din cu drag umflată guşe.
