„The Gardener V” de Rabindranath Tagore

I am restless. I am athirst for far-away things.
My soul goes out in a longing to touch the skirt of the dim distance.
O Great Beyond, O the keen call of thy flute!
I forget, I ever forget, that I have no wings to fly, that I am bound in this spot evermore.
Nu izbutesc să-mi aflu hodină. Mi-e sete de nemărginire.
Sufletul meu năzuieşte către neştiutele depărtări.
O, tu, Marele Dincolo, o, sfâşietoare chemare a flautului tău!
I am eager and wakeful, I am a stranger in a strange land.
Thy breath comes to me whispering an impossible hope.
Thy tongue is known to my heart as its very own.
O Far-to-seek, O the keen call of thy flute!
I forget, I ever forget, that I know not the way, that I have not the winged horse.
O, Mare Necunoscut, o , sfâşietoare chemare a flautului tău!
Uit, uit mereu că nu cunosc drumul, că nu am cal înaripat.
I am listless, I am a wanderer in my heart.
In the sunny haze of the languid hours, what vast vision of thine takes shape in the blue of the sky!
O Farthest end, O the keen call of thy flute!
I forget, I ever forget, that the gates are shut everywhere in the house where I dwell alone!
O, Mare Necunoscut! O, Sfâşietoare chemare a flautului tău!

When I die, I will see the lining of the world.
The other side, beyond bird, mountain, sunset.
The true meaning, ready to be decoded.
What never added up will add Up,
What was incomprehensible will be comprehended.
– And if there is no lining to the world?
If a thrush on a branch is not a sign,
But just a thrush on the branch? If night and day
Make no sense following each other?
And on this earth there is nothing except this earth?
– Even if that is so, there will remain
A word wakened by lips that perish,
A tireless messenger who runs and runs
Through interstellar fields, through the revolving galaxies,
And calls out, protests, screams.

For shame deny that thou bear’st love to any,
Who for thyself art so unprovident.
Grant, if thou wilt, thou art beloved of many,
But that thou none lov’st is most evident;
De dragoste ruşine-i să n-asculţi
o, tu, ce-i eşti nesăbuinţei fiu,
For thou art so possessed with murd’rous hate,
That ‘gainst thyself thou stick’st not to conspire,
Seeking that beauteous roof to ruinate
Which to repair should be thy chief desire.
Muncit de ură, inima-ţi încarci
cu patimă-potrivă-ţi şi ai vrea
al casei bun acoperiş să-l spargi
în loc să-ţi zidăreşti conac în ea.
O, change thy thought, that I may change my mind!
Shall hate be fairer lodged than gentle love?
Be as thy presence is, gracious and kind,
Or to thyself at least kind-hearted prove.
urii preferă-i al iubirii har,
fii precum eşti, iluminat de nimb,
baremi de tine-ndură-te măcar…
Make thee another self for love of me,
That beauty still may live in thine or thee.
Alt eu să-ţi faci, iubindu-mă pe mine
şi frumuseţi te-or locui, depline.

„Fruit-Gathering I” de Rabindranath Tagore

Bid me and I shall gather my fruits
to bring them in full baskets into your courtyard,
though some are lost and some not ripe.
For the season grows heavy with its fulness,
and there is a plaintive shepherd’s pipe in the shade.
Căci anotimpul devine greu în splendoare,
iar fluierul păstorului suspină în umbră.
Bid me and I shall set sail on the river.
The March wind is fretful, fretting the languid waves into murmurs.
The garden has yielded its all,
and in the weary hour of evening
the call comes from your house
on the shore in the sunset.
Grădina şi-a exaltat tot sufletul său,
