Tell Grandma the Truth
Grandma Jones took her two grandchildren to the Zoo. They enjoyed the afternoon, wandering throughout the park and admiring the different types of animals. When they came upon the cage of storks, Grandma told the youngsters that these were the birds that brought both of them to their mom and dad.
The children glanced at one another… then the oldest leaned over and whispered to the other, „Don’t you think we ought to tell Grandma the truth?”

Mrs. Jones was reading a letter at breakfast. Suddenly she looked up suspiciously at her husband.
„Henry,” she said, „I’ve just received a letter from mother saying she isn’t accepting our invitation to come and stay, as we do not appear to want her. What does she mean by that? I told you to write and say that she was to come at her own convenience. You did write, didn’t you?”
„Er, yes, I did,” said the husband. „But I couldn’t spell ‘convenience,’ so I made it ‘risk.”

Milkshake duck – cuvântul anului 2017 în Australia
Termenul denotă o persoană care câștigă o atenție pozitivă la scară largă, ca apoi să fie imediat criticată când noi informații sunt făcute publice. Dezbaterea se întâmplă de obicei în mediul online. În pofida exemplelor faimoase din SUA, „milkshake duck” a fost numit cuvântul anului de către Macquarie Dictionary, subliniind originile sale australiene.
De unde provine termenul? De la o poveste despre o rață care bea milkshake-uri. Macquarie Dictionary, considerat o autoritate în engleza australiană, a atribuit termenul unui tweet viral din 2016, semnat de Ben Ward (@pixelatedboat fiind contul său de Twitter), un creator de animații local. Acesta a creat personajul „Milkshake Duck” pentru a descrie în mod amuzant dezbaterile online.

Mrs. Smith pulled Mrs. Jones out of earshot of the porch, where Mrs. Jones’ lovely young daughter, Linda, sat. „It is really none of my business,” whispered Mrs. Smith, „but have you noticed what your daughter is doing?”
„Why, no. Is she up to anything special?”
Mrs. Smith leaned closer. „Haven’t you noticed? She has started knitting tiny garments!”
Mrs. Jones’ troubled brow cleared. „Well, thank goodness,” she said smiling, „at last she has taken an interest in something besides running around with boys.”
