„Assurances” de Walt Whitman

I need no assurances, I am a man
who is preoccupied of his own soul;
I do not doubt that from under the feet and beside the hands
and face I am cognizant of,
are now looking faces I am not cognizant of,
calm and actual faces,
I do not doubt but the majesty and beauty of the world are latent
in any iota of the world,
I do not doubt I am limitless, and that the universes
are limitless, in vain I try to think
how limitless,
I do not doubt that the orbs and the systems of orbs play their swift sports
through the air on purpose, and that I shall one day
be eligible to do as much as they, and
more than they,
I do not doubt that temporary affairs keep on
and on millions of years,
I do not doubt interiors have their interiors,
and exteriors have their exteriors, and that the eyesight has another eyesight,
and the hearing another hearing, and
the voice another voice,
I do not doubt that the passionately-wept deaths of young
men are provided for, and that the deaths of
young women and the deaths of little children
are provided for.
(Did you think Life was so well provided for,
and Death, the purport of all Life,
is not well provided for?)
I do not doubt that wrecks at sea, no matter what
the horrors of them, no matter whose wife,
child, husband, father, lover, has
gone down, are provided for, to the minutest points,
I do not doubt that whatever can possibly happen
anywhere at any time, is provided for in the inherences
of things.
I do not think Life provides for all and for Time and
Space, but I believe Heavenly Death provides
for all.
că exteriorul are un alt exterior, că vederea
are o altă vedere, că auzul are un alt auz şi

„Song of Myself (24)” de Walt Whitman

I do not press my fingers across my mouth,
I keep as delicate around the bowels as around the head and heart,
Copulation is no more rank to me than
death is.
moartea.

„Halcyon Days” de Walt Whitman

Not from successful love alone,
Nor wealth, nor honor’d middle age, nor victories of politics or war;
But as life wanes, and all the turbulent passions calm,
As gorgeous, vapory, silent hues cover the evening sky,
As softness, fulness, rest, suffuse the frame, like freshier, balmier air,
As the days take on a mellower light, and the apple at last hangs
really finish’d and indolent-ripe on the tree,
Then for the teeming quietest, happiest days of all!
The brooding and blissful halcyon days!
Vei avea zile senine.
zile dintre toate,
Liniştitele şi fericitele zile senine.

„To One Shortly to Die” de Walt Whitman

From all the rest I single out you, having a message
for you,
You are to die – let others tell you
what they please. I cannot prevaricate.
I am exact and merciless, but I love you – there is no escape for you.
Softly I lay my right hand upon you, you ‘ust feel it.
I do not argue, I bend my head close and
half envelop it.
I sit quietly by, I remain faithful.
I am more than nurse, more than
parent or neighbor.
I absolve you from all except yourself spiritual
bodily, that is eternal,
you yourself will surely escape.
The corpse you will leave will be but
excrementitious.
The sun bursts through in unlooked-for directions,
Strong thoughts fill you and confidence, you smile,
You forget you are sick, as I forget you are sick,
You do not see the medicines, you do not mind
the weeping friends,
I am with you,
I exclude others from you, there is nothing to be
commiserated,
I do not commiserate, I congratulate you.
spirituală: e eternă;

„Are You the New Person Drawn Toward Me?” de Walt Whitman

Are you the new person drawn toward me?
To begin with take warning, I am surely
far different from what you suppose;
Do you suppose you will find in me your ideal?
Do you think it so easy to have me become your lover?
Do you think the friendship of me would be unalloy’d
satisfaction?
Do you think I am trusty and faithful?
Do you see no further than this facade,
this smooth and tolerant manner of me?
Do you suppose yourself advancing on real ground toward
a real heroic man?
Have you no thought O dreamer that
it may be all Maya, illusion?
sunt foarte diferit de ceea ce presupui;

„My Picture-Gallery” de Walt Whitman

In a little house keep I pictures suspended,
it is not a fix’d house.
It is round, it is only a few inches
from one side to the other;
Yet behold, it has room for all the shows of the world,
all memories!
Here the tableaus of life, and here the groupings
of death;
Here, do you know this? This is cicerone himself.
With finger rais’d he points to the prodigal
pictures.
Într-o casă mică, păstrez, agăţate, tablourile;
tablouri.
