I
O wild West Wind, thou breath of Autumn’s being,
Thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead
Are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing, |
I
O, vânt de-apus, suflare-a Toamnei crunte,
De care fug – cum fug de-un vrăjitor
Nălucile – noroadele mărunte, |
Yellow, and black, and pale, and hectic red,
Pestilence-stricken multitudes: O thou,
Who chariotest to their dark wintry bed |
Gălbui sau negre, ale frunzelor –
Tu, care duci în goana ta sireapă
Seminţele spre paturile lor, |
The winged seeds, where they lie cold and low,
Each like a corpse within its grave, until
Thine azure sister of the Spring shall blow |
Unde vor zace ca un hoit în groapă
Până ce Primăvara – sora ta –
De trâmbiţă să sune va să-nceapă |
Her clarion o’er the dreaming earth, and fill
(Driving sweet buds like flocks to feed in air)
With living hues and odours plain and hill: |
Deasupra gliei, şi va adăpa
Cu aer cârdul florilor, umplând
Cu-arome şi culori orice vâlcea – |
Wild Spirit, which art moving everywhere;
Destroyer and preserver; hear, oh hear! |
O, duh ce, pretutindenea trecând,
Distrugi şi aperi, te aud suflând! |

„Ruin seize thee, ruthless King!
Confusion on thy banners wait,
Tho’ fann’d by Conquest’s crimson wing
They mock the air with idle state.
Helm, nor hauberk’s twisted mail,
Nor even thy virtues, tyrant, shall avail
To save thy secret soul from nightly fears,
From Cambria’s curse, from Cambria’s tears!”
Such were the sounds, that o’er the crested pride
Of the first Edward scatter’d wild dismay,
As down the steep of Snowdon’s shaggy side
He wound with toilsome march his long array.
Stout Glo’ster stood aghast in speechless trance;
To arms! cried Mortimer, and couch’d his quiv’ring lance. |
„Prinţ nendurat, urgie ţie!
Să-ţi vezi zăludele drapele
Pleoştite chiar când către ele
Vânt roş de cuceriri adie;
Nici coif, nici za, nici trunchiul tău vânjos
Nu îţi vor fi, Tirane, de folos
Să-ţi aperi, noaptea, cugetul
De-al Cambriei blestem şi de-al ei plâns!”
Aceste vorbe au umplut de-oroare
Pe mult fălosul Eduard-Întâi,
Când şerpuiau pe-abruptele ponoare
Din Snowdon – trudnic şir – oştenii săi.
Ca-n transă, mut, sta Glo’ster spăimântat;
„La arme!” strigă Mortimer şi lancea i-a vibrat. |

’Twas on a lofty vase’s side,
Where China’s gayest art had dyed
The azure flowers that blow;
Demurest of the tabby kind,
The pensive Selima, reclined,
Gazed on the lake below. |
Spre vasul falnic şi obez
Pe care un artist chinez
Pictase nenufari,
Selima – cea mai sfiicioasă
Din seminţia pisicoasă –
Privea cu ochii mari. |

Come leave the loathéd stage,
And the more loathsome age,
Where pride and impudence in faction knit
Usurp the chair of wit,
Indicting and arraigning, every day,
Something they call a play.
Let their fastidious, vain
Commission of the brain
Run on, and rage, sweat, censure, and condemn:
They were not made for thee, less thou for them. |
Urâta scenă tu o lasă –
Şi epoca – mai urâcioasă!
Trufia s-a-nţeles cu impostura
Să-nlăture cultura,
Tunând şi fulgerând mult prea adese
’Mpotriva unor „piese”.
Ce dacă jalnica lor minte
Te foarfecă, asudă, minte,
Dă-n gropi? N-au fost făcuţi ei pentru tine,
Dar nici tu pentru dumnealor, vezi bine! |

My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk:
‘Tis not through envy of thy happy lot,
But being too happy in thine happiness, –
That thou, light-winged Dryad of the trees,
In some melodious plot
Of beechen green and shadows numberless,
Singest of summer in full-throated ease. |
Mi-i somn în simţuri… Inima mă doare
Şi pare-se cucută doar şi opiu
De-o clipă c-am băut cu însetare;
M-afund în Lethe, de neant m-apropiu.
Nu pizmuindu-ţi neamu-n aste ore,
Ci-n fericirea ta prea fericită,
Driada-n crâng, cu aripi jucăuşe,
În melodii sonore,
Prin fagii verzi, de umbre-nvăluită,
Cânţi vara din cu drag umflată guşe. |

If aught of oaten stop, or pastoral song,
May hope, chaste Eve, to soothe thy modest ear,
Like thy own solemn springs,
Thy springs and dying gales; |
Dacă vreun zvon de nai sau vreun cânt rustic
Ţi-alintă-auzul blând, o, Seară castă,
Cum face, grav, pârâul
Şi boarea ta ce moare; |
