– Codrule, codruţule,
Ce mai faci, drăguţule,
Că de când nu ne-am văzut
Multă vreme au trecut
Şi de când m-am depărtat,
Multă lume am îmblat.
„Forest, trusted friend and true,
Forest dear, how do you do?
Since the day i saw you last
Many, many years have passed
And though you still steadfast stand
I have traveled many a land.”
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore–
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
„‘Tis some visiter,” I muttered, „tapping at my chamber door–
Only this and nothing more.”
,,E vreun trecător – gândit-am – şi-a bătut întâmplător.
Doar atât, un trecător.”
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower,
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind.
Deşi nimic nu poate aduce înapoi ora
splendorii în iarbă, a gloriei în floare,
nu vom plânge, ci vom găsi
putere în ce-a rămas în urmă.
