Din tezaurul mării am scos
Fericirile drepţilor.
Mergeam lângă Domnul supus.
Nu-mi era foame nu-mi era frig.
Pe drum treceau vameşi.
Atunci am întrebat şi El mi-a răspuns.
Întâi de toate învaţă răbdarea.
Munţi nu s-au clintit încă din loc.
Nu am trecut cu paşii mei marea.
Deci am repetat întrebarea mirat.
Caută singur răspuns. Mi-a răspuns.
Nu vezi fericiţii acestui veac?
Toţi au ales disperarea. |
I have extracted the joys of the righteous
Out of the Sea’s Treasure
I was humbly walking beside The Lord
I was not hungry I was not cold
To and fro tollhouse clerks were passing us by
And then I asked Him my question and then He answered
First and foremost thou must learn to be patient
Mounts have not yet shifted
I have not yet crossed the sea on foot
Puzzled I once anew asked my question
Seek thy own answer was His answer
Might thou not have noted nowadays happy ones?
Hopelessness is what they all have chosen |

A word is dead
When it is said,
Some say. |
Cuvântul e mort
Îndată ce-i rostit
Se spune. |
I say it just
Begins to live
That day. |
Eu cred că abia atunci
Începe viaţa lui
În lume. |

Împărat slăvit e codrul,
Neamuri mii îi cresc sub poale,
Toate înflorind din mila
Codrului, Măriei-Sale. |
Mighty emperor is the forest,
High dominion does he wield,
And a thousand races prosper
‘Neath the shelter of his shield. |

‘Tis Evanoe’s,
A house not made with hands,
But out somewhere beyond the worldly ways
Her gold is spread, above, around, inwoven;
Strange ways and walls are fashioned out of it. |
Stă-ntr-însa Evanoe,
O casă durată nu de mână-omenească,
Ci dincolo de cărări lumeşti, undeva departe
Deasupra, împrejur, înăuntru e răspândit aurul;
Pereţi şi ciudate coridoare – din aur sunt şi ele. |
And I have seen my Lady in the sun,
Her hair was spread about, a sheaf of wings,
And red the sunlight was, behind it all. |
Şi-am văzut-o pe Doamna mea în lumina soarelui,
Păru-i era răsfirat în jur, un snop de aripi,
Iar soarele roşu, îndărătul a toate. |
And I have seen her there within her house,
With six great sapphires hung along the wall,
Low, panel-shaped, a-level with her knees,
All her robe was woven of pale gold. |
Şi-am văzut-o acolo în casa ei,
Cu şase mari safire de-a-lungul peretelui,
Cu rochia toată din aur palid,
Joasă, c-o garnitură pân-la genunchi. |
There are there many rooms and all of gold,
Of woven walls deep patterned, of email,
Of beaten work; and through the claret stone,
Set to some weaving, comes the aureate light. |
Sunt multe-ncăperi şi toate de aur
Cu pereţi lucraţi adânc în email,
În metal forjat; şi prin roşiatica piatră
Anume cizelată, năvăleşte lumina aurie. |
Here am I come perforce my love of her,
Behold mine adoration
Maketh me clear, and there are powers in this
Which, played on by the virtues of her soul,
Break down the four-square walls of standing time. |
Aici vin din prea mare dragoste de dânsa,
Iată adorarea cu care ador
Mă-nseninează şi sunt în ea puteri
Care, de sufletu-i aprinse,
Dărâmă cei patru pereţi statornici ai timpului. |

Fair lady Isabel sits in her bower sewing,
Aye as the gowans grow gay
There she heard an elf-knight blawing his horn.
The first morning in May |
Frumoasa Isabel șade-n iatac şi coase
Şi-n timp ce altițele prind grai,
Aude-un cavaler suflând din corn
În prima dimineaţă-a lunii mai. |

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow. |
Pe-un prieten eu m-am mâniat:
Mi-am spus durerea, m-a lăsat.
M-am mâniat pe un duşman:
N-am spus-o, a crescut avan. |
And I watered it in fears
Night and morning with my tears,
And I sunned it with smiles
And with soft deceitful wiles. |
Şi am udat-o tot cu groază,
Cu lacrimi am ţinut-o trează;
Şi-am însorit-o cu zâmbiri,
Şi cu viclene uneltiri. |
And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright,
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine, – |
Şi-atât de mult crescu cumplita,
Încât un mândru măr rodit-a;
Şi-al meu duşman, zărindu-mi-l
Pe creangă sus, veni tiptil, |
And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning, glad, I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree. |
Furiş, în miezul nopţii-adânce,
La mărul meu, ca să mi-l mânce;
Şi-n zori, ferice sunt cât zece
Să-l văd sub pom, întins şi rece. |
