În limba engleză actuală, expresia „down in the dumps” înseamnă că nu avem o starea de spirit bună.
Însă termenul original din engleza dinastiei Tudor desemna o stare de vis cu ochii deschişi, ori de uimire şi nedumerire, şi nu una depresivă. În sensul acesta, probabil că-şi are rădăcinile într-un termen vechi olandez, „domp”, care însemna „abur”, „mist”.
Aşadar, nu visaţi excesiv. Visarea se poate transforma în coşmar.
