„Alison”

Bytuene Mershe ant Averil
When spray biginneth to spring,
The lutel foul hath hire wyl
On hyre lud to synge:
Ich libbe in love-longinge
For semlokest of alle thynge,
He may me blisse bringe,
Icham in hire bandoun.
An hendy hap ichabbe y-hent,
Ichot from hevene it is me sent,
From alle wymmen my love is lent
Ant lyht on Alisoun.
De prin mart până-n prier
Când ies muguri pe smicea,
Piruitul ei spre cer
Pasărea să-l nalţe vrea;
Eu doresc doar dragostea,
Căci nu-i lucru bun ca ea
Şi ferice m-ar făcea –
Rob i-s, ca-n pripon.
Un imbold, din cer purces,
Să iubesc îmi dete ghes,
Şi din fete am ales
Numai pe-Alison.

„Amoretti: Sonnet LXX” de Edmund Spenser

Fresh Spring, the herald of loves mighty king,
In whose cote-armour richly are displayd
All sorts of flowres the which on earth do spring,
In goodly colours gloriously arrayd,
Goe to my Love, where she is carelesse layd,
Yet in her winters bowre not well awake:
Tell her the ioyous time wil not be staid,
Unlesse she doe him by the forelock take;
Bid her therefore her selfe soone ready make,
To wayt on Love amongst his lovely crew,
Where every one that misseth then her make
Shall be by him amearst with penance dew.
Make haste therefore, sweet Love, while it is prime;
For none can call againe the passed time.
Tu Primăvară – crainic al iubirii,
Pe-a cărui stemă rânduite sunt
Flori fel de fel din bogăţia Firii,
Gătite în gingaş boit veşmânt.
La patul dragei mele mergi curând,
Şi, dacă încă doarme, veşti să-i dai
Că nu stă-n loc voiosul timp niciând,
Noi neputând a-l prinde strâns de strai;
Grăbeşte-o ca-ntr-al Dragostei alai
Să intre, spre-a sluji-o cu silinţă –
Acolo unde, când pereche n-ai,
Eşti osândit la plânset şi căinţă.
Zoreşte, cât e primăvara-n toi,
Iubito; Timpul nu-l chem înapoi.

„Sonnet IV” de Samuel Daniel

When men shall find thy flow’r, thy glory, pass,
And thou with careful brow, sitting alone,
Receivèd hast this message from thy glass,
That tells the truth and says that All is gone;
Fresh shalt thou see in me the wounds thou mad’st,
Though spent thy flame, in me the heat remaining:
I that have loved thee thus before thou fad’st—
My faith shall wax, when thou art in thy waning.
The world shall find this miracle in me,
That fire can burn when all the matter’s spent:
Then what my faith hath been thyself shalt see,
And that thou was unkind thou may’st repent.—
Thou may’st repent that thou hast scorn’d my tears,
When Winter snows upon thy sable hairs.
Când s-o vedea că nu mai eşti în floare,
Şi ţie, duh stingher şi abătut,
Îţi va fi spus oglind, vestitoare
De adevăr, că Totul s-a trecut,
Privi-vei, vie, rana ce-am primit.
Deşi păleşti, prin mine flăcări curg;

„Song: to Celia” de Ben Jonson

Drink to me only with thine eyes,
And I will pledge with mine;
Or leave a kiss but in the cup,
And I’ll not look for wine.
The thirst that from the soul doth rise
Doth ask a drink divine;
But might I of Jove’s nectar sup,
I would not change for thine.
Din ochi închină-mi cupa ta,
Cu-ai mei şi eu mă-nchin;
Lasă-ţi sărutul în pahar
Şi nu mai jindui vin!
Când e-nsetată inima,
Vrea un pocal divin –
Dar nici cu-al zeilor Nectar
Pe-al tău să-l schimb nu ţin.
I sent thee late a rosy wreath,
Not so much honouring thee
As giving it a hope, that there
It could not withered be.
But thou thereon didst only breathe,
And sent’st it back to me;
Since when it grows, and smells, I swear,
Not of itself, but thee.
Un braţ de roze-ţi trimisei,
Nu doar că se cuvine,
Ci ca să sper că tot frumoase
Rămân, şi că vor ţine…
Dar tu, abia privind spre ele,
Le-ai şi întors la mine –
De-atunci, mă jur, la fel miros,
Ci nu a flori: a tine.

„The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” de Christopher Marlowe

Come live with me and be my Love,
And we will all the pleasures prove
That hills and valleys, dale and field,
And all the craggy mountains yield.
Hai, vino-mi, fii iubirea mea,
Şi-al nostru-i tot ce ne-o plăcea:
Câmpii şi dealuri, văi adânci
Şi tot ce-i viu, pe munţi, pe stânci.
There will we sit upon the rocks
And see the shepherds feed their flocks,
By shallow rivers, to whose falls
Melodious birds sing madrigals.
Din pisc, stând noi pe bolovani,
Zări-vom turme şi ciobani
Şi gârla – unde se prăvale,
Şi paseri cântă madrigale.
There will I make thee beds of roses
And a thousand fragrant posies,
A cap of flowers, and a kirtle
Embroider’d all with leaves of myrtle.
Aici din roz pat ţi-oi face
Şi mii buchete busuoiace;
Din flori o scufă, şi-un pieptar
Brodat cu frunze de smirdar;
A gown made of the finest wool
Which from our pretty lambs we pull,
Fair linèd slippers for the cold,
With buckles of the purest gold.
Pe-un strai din cea mai moale lână
De miei gingaşi vei fi stăpână;
Şi moi blăniţi, de cald să ţie,
Cu copci de aur da-voi ţie;
A belt of straw and ivy buds
With coral clasps and amber studs:
And if these pleasures may thee move,
Come live with me and be my Love.
Şi-un brâu de iederi şi grozamă
Cu chihlimbar pe cataramă;
Şi-acestea dacă ţi-or plăcea,
Hai, vino-mi, fii iubita mea.
Thy silver dishes for thy meat
As precious as the gods do eat,
Shall on an ivory table be
Prepared each day for thee and me.
Şi-n talger de argint îţi dau
Mâncări de preţ cum zeii au,
Iar tu şi eu, în orice zi,
Pe-o albă masă vom prânzi.
The shepherd swains shall dance and sing
For thy delight each May-morning:
If these delights thy mind may move,
Then live with me and be my Love.
În mai, ai stânei păstorei
Spre-al tău desfăt dansa-vor ei…
Deci dacă-ţi plac aşa dsfături,
Iubito, vino-mi tu alături!

„Sonnet VI” de Michael Drayton

How many paltry foolish painted Things,
That now in coaches trouble every street,
Shall be forgotten (whom no Poet sings)
Ere they be well wrapped in their winding sheet!
Where I, to thee Eternity shall give!
When nothing else remaineth of these days.
And Queens hereafter shall be glad to live
Upon the alms of thy superfluous praise.
Virgins and matrons, reading these my rhymes,
Shall be so much delighted with thy Story,
That they shall grieve they lived not in these Times,
To have seen Thee, their sex’s only glory!
So shalt thou fly above the vulgar throng,
Still to survive in my immortal Song.
O, câte chipuri care râd prosteşte,
Zorzoane, fleacuri, mişunând pe stradă,
Ce pana de poet le ocoleşte,
Vor face parte din a morţii pradă!
Ci eu în dar ţi-aduc eternitate;
Când praful lin s-o cerne pe-aste zile,
Când doamne şi prinţese în palate
De versul tău s-or bucura, umile,
Fecioare sau bătrâne s-or uimi
De frumuseţea ce-a putut să nască
Iubirea noastră. Mult se vor mâhni
Că n-au trăit atunci, să te cunoască.
Astfel urca-vei peste cei de rând
Şi vei trăi în veşnicul meu cânt.
Michael Drayton traducere de Dan Duţescu
