With life’s tomorrow time you grasp, Its yesterdays you fling away, And still, in spite of all remains Its long eternity, today. |
| Când unul trece, altul vine În astă lume a-l urma, Precum când soarele apune El şi răsare undeva. |
When one thing goes, another comes In this wide world by heaven borne; And when the sun is setting here ‘Tis somewhere else just breaking dawn. |
| Se pare cum că alte valuri Cobor mereu pe-acelaşi vad, Se pare cum că-i altă toamnă, Ci-n veci aceleaşi frunze cad. |
It seems somehow that other waves Are rolling down the same old stream, And somehow, tough the autumns change, ‘Tis but the same leaves fall it seem. |
Before our night does ever ride The queen of mornings rosy skies; While even death is but a guess, Of life a notion, a surmise. |
| Din orice clipă trecătoare Ăst adevăr îl înţeleg, Că sprijină vecia-ntreagă Şi-nvârte universu-ntreg. |
Of every moment that goes by One fact each mortal creature knows; The universe is poised in time And whirling round for ever goes. |
Still, though this year will fly away And soon but to the bygone add, Within your soul you ever hold Each thing of worth you ever had. |
With life’s tomorrow time you grasp, Its yesterday you fling away, And still, in spite of all remains Its long eternity, today. |
| Priveliştile sclipitoare, Ce-n repezi şiruri se diştern, Repaosă nestrămutate Sub raza gândului etern. |
A radiant and brilliant view, In many rapid glimpses caught, Of infinite, unending calm, Bathed in the rays of timeless thought. |
| Mihai Eminescu | traducere de Corneliu M. Popescu |
| Flow down, cold rivulet, to the sea, Thy tribute wave deliver: No more by thee my steps shall be, For ever and for ever. |
| Flow, softly flow, by lawn and lea, A rivulet then a river: No where by thee my steps shall be, For ever and for ever. |
| But here will sigh thine alder tree, And here thine aspen shiver; And here by thee will hum the bee, For ever and for ever. |
Vor suspina în vânt arinii Şi plopii tristelor poteci; Suna-va zumzetul albinii În veci de veci. |
| A thousand suns will stream on thee, A thousand moons will quiver; But not by thee my steps shall be, For ever and for ever. |
| Alfred Tennyson | traducere de Paul Abucean |
| The petals fall in the fountain, the orange-coloured rose-leaves, Their ochre clings to the stone. |
Once on a time, as poets sing High tales with fancy laden, Born of a very noble king There lived a wondrous maiden. |
