Când vine vorba de „metru”, americanii nu s-au pus de acord cu restul lumii cum să-i spună. Ei zic „meter„, ceilalţi zic „metre„.
Asta este valabil atât pentru unitatea de măsură, cât şi pentru unităţile de ritm din poezie, muzică etc.
Capcana constă în faptul că „meter” mai are un sens, care este folosit peste tot: aparat de măsură. Niciodată nu trebuie folosit „metre” cu acest sens, oriunde te-ai afla.

Missing Dog
The front door was accidentally left open and the dog was gone. After unsuccessfully whistling and calling, Jim got in the car and went looking for him.
He drove around the neighborhood for some time with no luck.
Finally, he stopped beside a couple out for a walk and asked if they had seen his dog.
„You mean the one following your car?” they asked.
