Populism - termenul anului 2017 anunţat de Cambridge Dictionary
Alegerea unui câștigător a impus nu numai căutarea celor mai căutate cuvinte, ci și vârfuri - ocazii în care un cuvânt este deodată căutat de multe mai multe ori decât de obicei în jurul unei anumite date.
În timp ce Donald Trump, un candidat polarizant, a fost investit în cel de-al 45-lea președinte al Statelor Unite, pe 22 ianuarie 2017, căutările privind cuvântul „inauguration” („inaugurare”) în dicționarul online Cambridge au înregistrat un vârf. La fel s-a întâmplat și cu interpelările cuvântului „populism”, pentru că, în aceeași zi, Papa Francisc a avertizat împotriva unui val de populism în creștere într-un interviu pe larg publicat de ziarul El Pais. La jumătatea lunii martie, după un alt interviu cu Suveranul Pontif - de data aceasta pentru publicația germană Die Zeit - căutările pentru termenul termen “populism” au crescut din nou.
