As that star which now rises is From us so far away, Its light spent myriad centuries To reach us, on its way. |
Maybe that star’s already dead, Lost in the far, blue skies, And all that’s left now in its stead Are rays that meet our eyes. |
The image of what once has been A star is that bright spot; It did exist when still unseen, And what we see, does not. |
| Tot astfel când al nostru dor Pieri în noapte-adâncă, Lumina stinsului amor Ne urmăreşte încă. |
Thus, when our burning longing dies, Extinguished in the dark, The light of the dead love still flies And sheds on us its spark. |
| Poezie de Mihai Eminescu | Traducere de Dan Solomon |
| Amurg de toamnă violet… Doi plopi, în fund, apar în siluete – Apostoli în odăjdii violete – Oraşul e tot violet. |
Autumnal twilight purple-blue – Afar twin poplars to the sky aspire – Apostles dressed in purple-blue attire – The town is all, all purple-blue. |
| Amurg de toamnă violet… Pe drum e-o lume leneşă, cochetă; Mulţimea toată pare violetă, Oraşul tot e violet. |
Autumnal twilight purple-blue – Smart, glittering idle people stroll along, And all in purple-blue appears the throng – The town is all, all purple-blue. |
Autumnal twilight purple-blue – From up the tower I see long-tressed voivodes; The forebears march along the country-roads – The town is all, all purple-blue. |
Little girl, put your hands on my knees. I think that eternity was country-born. Here every thought is slower, and the heart throbs at a quieter pace, as if it were not beating in your breast but deep in the earth somewhere. Here your thirst for redemption is healed and if your feet are bleeding you sit down on a bank of clay. |
Look, it is evening. The soul of the villages flutters by like a shy odour of mown grass, like a fall of smoke from thatched roofs, like kids frisking on high graves. |
| Poezie de Lucian Blaga | Traducere de Dan Duţescu |
