„Fake news” este cuvântul anului pentru Macquarie Dictionary
Expresia „fake news”, care descrie poveşti fără o bază în realitate, a fost aleasă de Macquarie Dictionary dreptul cuvântul anului. Se spune că practica creării zvonurilor false, propagandei şi a dezinformării au influenţat rezultatul alegerilor prezidenţiale din SUA.
Alegerea substantivelor compuse este o altă modă cu tendinţă crescătoare a celor care aleg neologisme. Comitetul Macquarie, din care fac parte comentatorul politic Annabel Crabb şi autoarea Kate Grenville, a ales „fake news” în defavoarea lui „halal snack pack” (mâncare de fast food care combină straturi de cartofi prăjiţi, brânză rasă, carne de halal doner kebab, plus usturoi şi sos de barbecue şi chili) şi a lui „enby” (care descrie o persoană ce nu se identifică nici cu genul masculin, nici cu genul feminin).

Burglar
A man was sleeping when his wife shook him and said, „Wake up! Someone is breaking in!”
The man had gone through this almost every night for 20 years, and he knew that the only way he would get any rest was to go and check it out. This time, however, there was a man with a gun who entered to rob the house.
As the thief was about to leave the man said, „You have to go and meet my wife.”
The thief said, „Why would you want me to meet your wife?”
The man explained, „Well, she’s been expecting you for 20 years.”
