Cine ghiceşte ce înseamnă „bullion” în engleză? Nu are nici cea mai mică legătură cu vreun lichid comestibil. Înseamnă pur şi simplu „lingou” (plus alte câteva lucruri din aur, dar aceste sensuri au ieşit din uz).
Dar „bouillon„? Acesta este pe aproape – nu înseamnă pasta de roşii, dar măcar are un sens existent şi în limba română, chiar dacă rar folosit: supă de carne fără zarzavat sau paste făinoase.
Atunci cum i se spune la „bulion” (pasta de roşii) în limba engleză?! Cu totul altfel, dar nu tocmai surprinzător: „tomato sauce”.

Four local, but unmistakable VIP’s arrived for dinner at a New York hotel right at the busiest time. There was no table available and they were kept waiting in the lobby.
The hotel manager spotted them and hurried over to the maitre d’hotel. „Do you realize just who you’ve got waiting in the lobby to be seated?” he asked.
„Indeed I do.” the maitre d’hotel replied. „I’ve already been told four times, sir.”
